This Giving Tuesday, Help Keep UCHA Affordable for Students
Dear UCHA Alumni,
I hope you’ve been doing well. I’m reaching out with an update from
home The COOP. As fellow Coop members, you know better than anyone what UCHA stands for and what it has meant to thousands of students over the past eight decades. We share a unique bond rooted in cooperation, affordability, and the belief that every student deserves a chance to pursue higher education without facing financial barriers. UCHA has always been more than housing; it has been a lifeline, a support system, and a home for generations of students.
For decades, UCHA has sustained itself through shared work and collective responsibility. Even today, we continue to provide rent at $675 per month, inclusive of meals, utilities, Wi-Fi, and community resources, a model that remains unmatched in Los Angeles. However, maintaining this level of affordability has increasingly challenged our resources. The long-term financial impact of COVID-19, ongoing building maintenance needs, and rising operating costs have placed significant pressure on our cooperative system.
Yet our mission remains unchanged:-We Make Education Possible.
By opening the doors to higher education through affordable, student run, cooperative housing, we ensure that students from all backgrounds can learn, grow, and succeed.
Today, we are inviting our alumni community, the people who know the Coop best, to join us in supporting this mission. Your contribution directly strengthens UCHA and ensures that future students can access the same transformative experience that shaped so many of our lives.
I am attaching the boiler appeal below — kindly take a moment to read it, and please feel free to reach out with any questions.
Yours Truly,
Ananya Bhardwaj
